Sleeper
It is very important that you master the "Sleeper" because many other yo-yo tricks are built off of performing a strong "Sleeper" The "Sleeper" is performed by holding the yo-yo in the palm of your hand with your palm facing upwards.
1.. Cradle the yo-yo in your hand so that the yo-yo is perfectly straight.
2.. Check your string and make sure that the yo-yo string is allowing the yo-yo to unwind off the fingertips with the palm facing upwards.
3.. Now cradling the yo-yo in your palm, bend your wrist and then your arm so that the elbow is being brought up towards your head. This will be a bit like making a muscle.
4.. Throw the yo-yo hard downwards. Try to aim for an imaginary target about one step in front of you. Make sure that you release the yo-yo straight so that it hits the end of the string straight. Be careful not to jerk the yo-yo back up.
5.. If thrown hard enough and straight it will now spin at the end of the string as if sleeping.
6.. After a few seconds, the yo-yo will slow down. Before it has time to start leaning to one side, give the yo-yo string a sharp tug and it will climb the string back to your hand.
7.. Perfect your "Sleeper" by adding a hard snap to your wrist when you release. The harder the throw, the longer the spin.
Some yo-yos will return automatically while others can sleep for over 60 seconds!
